Building construction and thermal insulation

There should be some mechanism by which transmission of heat from or in the room is retarded. This mechanism is known as thermal insulation. Thus thermal insulation is a main component in building design. Thermal insulation helps to minimize the transfer of heat between outside and inside of the building. Comfort is an advantage of proper thermal insulation. Proper thermal insulation keeps the room cool during summer and hot in winter. Fuel requirement for maintaining desired temperature is less if there is proper thermal insulation. Moisture deposition on interior walls and ceilings can be prevented by proper thermal insulation. Different forms of thermal insulating materials are slab or block, blanket, loose fill, bat, boards, reflective sheet and light weight. Materials used for this purpose are cork board, mineral wool, vermiculite, cellular glass, cellular rubber, saw dust, asbestos cement, rock wool, slag wool, wood fiber wool, gypsum, steel and aluminium.
