Fractionation of petroleum

Here method of separation of crude oil into its constituent fractions is described. The crude oil is initially vaporized in a steel pipe still furnace. Here hot vapors ascend and less volatile components condense and return to the lower areas. By this method we can extract gaseous fuels, liquid fuels, lubricating oils, grease and hydrocarbons. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is gaseous fuel. These fractions are subjected to cracking and reforming. Cracking is a method to change the molecular mass and reforming is a method to change molecular structure. As a result of cracking, we obtain kerosene, petrol and diesel.
