Antilock brake system (ABS)

ABS is a common term used frequently in motor vehicle industry. ABS is a system mounted on motor vehicles which prevents the wheels from locking while braking. This system allows the driver to maintain steering control under sudden and heavy braking by preventing a skid and allowing the wheel to continue to move or roll forward and create lateral control as directed by driver steering in puts. The basic components of an ABS system are a central a central electronic unit, four speed sensors and a minimum of two hydraulic valves on the brake circuit. The purpose of the electronic circuit is to monitor the rotation speed of each wheel. When brakes are applied, controller activates the antilock system. When speed of one wheel is considerably slower than others, valves moves decreasing the pressure on the braking circuit.
