Electroplating

Electroplating or electrodeposition is a method by which we deposit a metal over the surface of a substrate. Here we use electrolysis technique. The range of choice for substrate is exciting. We can employ a metal, polymer, ceramic or composite as a substrate. In this method we electrolyze a suitable salt solution of the metal being plated. The substrate will be the cathode and the metal will be the anode. Electroysis process will dissolve anode into the electrolytic bath and the metal ions from the bath solution are deposited as metal over the cathode. Highly conducting electrolytic solution and optimum current density are used to get a good deposit. Deposition of metal is similar to crystal growth since metals have well defined crystal structures.
